THINKING OF CHANGING ACCOUNTANTS?

You’re not alone! And it’s much easier than you think to make the switch.

Whether your accountant isn’t responding, has made mistakes - like not filing your tax return correctly - or you’ve simply outgrown them, there are many reasons why it could be time to change accounting firms.

“I sacked my accountants recently as they just did the basic stuff and seemed to make no effort to understand my vision and the bigger picture so as to save me from paying more tax than is legally necessary.”
“I fired my accountants because they were not creative enough, in a legal sense.”

“I realised my old accountants weren’t ideal to help me any more as they only seemed to want to do the basic minimum.”
“I changed my accountants when I set up a new company for a new business activity to run alongside my old ones. I realised my old accountants weren’t ideal to help me any more as they only seemed to want to do the basic minimum. I’m not sure they had many company clients.”
Do any of these reasons strike a chord?

HOW TO CHANGE ACCOUNTANTS

The good news is that there is a set protocol between professional firms that means that your accountant is obliged to pass over all relevant accounting and tax history for you and your business without delay otherwise they will be sanctioned by their professional body (ICAEW or ACCA).

STEP 1

Get in touch with Acconomy in confidence to establish the services you require together with a guaranteed fee quote.

STEP 2

Inform your existing accountant in writing that you are moving to Acconomy. Here’s what you could write to advise your existing accountant of the move:

“Dear X

I am writing to formally advise you that I will be transferring my personal accounting and tax affairs together with those of my company X Ltd to Acconomy Limited. Please provide Acconomy Limited with all the information that they may request or require in this regard. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your help over the last X years.

Yours sincerely ______________ Director, X Ltd”

STEP 3

Check to ensure that you have paid for work undertaken by your current accountant and cancel any Direct Debit/Standing order.

STEP 4

Acconomy will write to your existing accountant requesting all the documentation necessary to take over the account.

Any firm of Qualified Accountants has a professional duty to adhere to help clients transfer to their new accountant - the process couldn’t be simpler:
